A great treat to give people this Christmas is homemade marshmallows. As you may know, the homemade version is nothing like the spongy stuff you get at the grocery store. They are much more flavorful, and much more inclined to melt in your mouth, than that.

And it looks like marshmallows are easy to make. According to Alton Brown, it’s a matter of combining gelatin, corn starch, corn syrup, powdered sugar, and so on, letting it set up, and then cutting them to marshmallow sizes.

Once you’ve made the marshmallows, there’s lots of gift possibilities. You could give the marshmallows by themselves, perhaps with a nice bag of hot cocoa, or you could do what Baking Bites did and dip them in chocolate.

Or you could make your own graham crackers and combine them with some good quality chocolate so people can make their very own gourmet smores.

In any case, homemade marshmallows are a way to give a fancy treat for very little cost this Christmas.
