It is Mardi Gras. That means drinking, right? New Orleans is the home of many excellent cocktails, including one of my favorites (and one of the oldest), the Sazerac, as well as many others. Here are 4 Mardi Gras Cocktails to check out:

1. Sazerac. Awhile back, I demonstrated how to make a proper Sazerac using good quality rye whiskey and just a drop of absinthe.

2. Vieux Carre Cocktail. A stiff and delicious drink using rye whiskey, cognac, sweet vermouth, Benedictine liqueur, and bitters.

3. Hurricane. A staple on the street of New Orleans, the Hurricane is a sweet alternative to the above more traditional drinks. It has rum and passion fruit syrup in it.

4. I also like this cocktail DIY Cocktails pointed out, the The Lagniappe, which is made with rye and blackberry syrup. Isn’t it pretty?
